 SCHOOL FACTS

Welcome to Roopville Elementary School, home of the Hornets! We are located ten miles south of Carrollton. We are a Title I Distinguished School and have made AYP by absolute bar for seven consecutive years. We were also selected one of 16 schools in the state of Georgia in the 2006-2007 school year for a visit by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Bus Tour XIV due to advances made in the area of student achievement. Roopville Elementary School’s motto is “learning to be responsible, respectful, and successful!”

Roopville Elementary School is located in the small town of Roopville, Georgia approximately 47 miles from Atlanta, the nearest metro area. The school opened in 1976, housing kindergarten through eighth grades. In the fall of 1994, grades six through eight became part of Central Middle School. Thanks to a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, a new wing was opened in December of 2002 to house grades three through five. This allowed all classrooms to be housed inside rather than in mobile units. Currently, Roopville houses two pre-kindergarten classes, four kindergarten classes, four classes in first grade, three classes in second grade, three classes in third grade, three fourth grade classes, and two fifth grade classes.

 PROGRAMS

Roopville Elementary School makes a positive impact on student achievement through effective teamwork. This includes a strong veteran staff, great students, a supportive community, and positive, caring administrators. Students in every grade level receive a quality education in the four academic areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. All instruction is implemented and guided by the Georgia Performance Standards and/or the Georgia Quality Core Curriculum. Learning-focused strategies are implemented throughout all academic areas of the curriculum. Best practices such as prioritizing curriculum, differentiated instruction, integrating technology, and reading and writing across the curriculum are also pervasive. Teachers continually assess instruction and student performance through the use of benchmark assessments, Star Reader & Star Math, and Georgia On-Line Assessment. A variety of texts, manipulatives, instructional materials/programs such as SRA Direct Instruction, Step Up to Writing, and Accelerated Reader/Vocabulary are utilized in day-to-day instruction.

Early Intervention Program (EIP)
The Early Intervention Program is designed to serve students who are at risk of not reaching or maintaining academic grade level. All identified students will receive Early Intervention Program assistance until they reach grade level performance.

Special Education Programs
Special education programs are provided for students who qualify as individuals with disabilities. A committee of teachers, administrators, and parents collaborate to write Individual Education Plans for students served by the special education program.

QUEST
The QUEST program is provided for students in kindergarten through fifth grades who qualify for gifted education services. Students receive instruction based on a differentiated curriculum in which the content, teaching strategies, and expectations of student mastery have been adjusted to be appropriate for gifted students.
